Most of us think a lot about what we put into our bodies in the form of the foods and drinks we consume, but we think a lot less about the products we put onto our skin.

This is unfortunate because unlike the gut, the skin does not provide an effective barrier – in fact, the skin absorbs many of the chemicals applied to it.

Here is an extensive round-up of some of the best natural beauty products.

HAIR 

• Shampoo & Conditioner
  I love the Art Naturals Organic Argan Oil Shampoo & Conditioner – these products are really lovely on my hair.
  
• Castor Oil for Hair
  Castor oil contains nutrients that promote hair growth. Rub a few drops into the roots of your hair before bed, and sleep on a towel. Wash out thoroughly in the morning.
  
• Other Oils for Hair
  We all know that Argan Oil is great for hair, but my preferred oil for hair is Fushi’s Really Good Hair Oil. 30 Minute Treatment for Beautiful Hair Using Fushi’s Really Good Hair Oil

1. Pour 8-10ml of oil into your hand, depending on hair length and volume
2. Apply the oil into the scalp by massaging it gently using your fingers for 10-12 minutes
3. Run oil through the hair length and the ends. Don’t neglect teh hair on the back of your head.
4. Wrap a steaming warm towel around the head for 30 minutes. Wash off and hair will feel wonderfully replenished.

FACE

Exfoliation

Best Jojoba Oil

Anti-aging Serums

There are several anti-ageing serums available that you apply before moisturiser. Depending on your age you may or may not need these.

Vitamin C Serum

My favourite anti-aging face serum is Natural Earth Laboratory’s Vitamin C Serum with Hyaluronic Acid. The bottle is twice as large (60ml) compared to most other serums for similar prices.

Hyaluronic Acid Serum

One of the BEST products for plumping and firming the skin is Hyaluronic Acid. As a naturally-occurring polysaccharide found in the human body, it acts as a cushioning and lubrication agent for our joints, nerves, hair, skin and eyes.

I have yet to find a really natural hyaluronic acid serum with a small ingredient list, but I have included it here as it is so effective at hydrating the skin. (If you know of a really good serum with less ingredients, please let me know in the comments section.)

• Coconut Oil Pulling – there is some evidence that oil pulling reduces gingivitis and the total number of anaerobic bacteria in your mouth, making your breath smell better. Streptococcus Mutans is one of the bacteria that is prominent in the mouth and it has been studied for its role in tooth decay and gum disease. Oil pulling (especially when done with coconut oil) has been shown to reduce the number of S. Mutans bacteria in the mouth.
• We like Jax Coco Coconut Oil Beauty Snaps for oil pulling. 24 x individual sachets of 100% organic virgin coconut oil.
  
• How to carry out oil pulling: Take 1 sachet or 1-2 teaspoons of coconut oil, place it in your mouth to melt, and keeping your lips closed, swish for between 5 and 20 minutes. Do not swallow. Spit into your rubbish bin once finished because the oil can clog your sink. Brush your teeth after spitting.
