Primal Retreats – Spain

One of the great things about Primal Fitness, is that you can do it anywhere, with no special equipment or facilities.

Whether it be in a globo gym, local park, the street, or even your garage or front room, Primal Fitness is about movement, engaging your brain, and adapting to whatever environment you encounter.

This is good news, because unfortunately, most of us don’t have the time to go out to the forest everyday to climb trees, carry rocks and crawl through the undergrowth.

That said, however, sometimes there is no substitute for going wild…

Go Primal in the Beautiful Spanish Wilderness

From a purely biomechanical perspective, the body doesn’t know if it’s lifting a kettlebell in a gym, or a rock in the wilderness, the muscles and movements are the same.

The deeper you explore the world of evolutionary health and wellbeing, however, you’ll start to find that the benefits of a Primal Lifestyle extend way beyond simply strengthening muscles and improving cardiovascular fitness.

We evolved in nature, not just as hunter-gatherers, but as pioneers – spreading across the globe from our origins in Africa, to every corner of the planet.

We may have adapted reasonably well to a life of routine in the urban environment, but to truly thrive, we need also to devote the time to get back to nature when we can, and rekindle that deeply ingrained love for exploring our natural world.

Primal Retreats (http://www.primalfitness.co.uk/retreats/) offer you the opportunity to do this, combining Natural Movement based Activities and Adventure, in the beautifuly wild surroundings of the Sierra Nevada Mountains of Southern Spain, with a group of like minded pioneers and explorers!

Las Alpujarras

Whether you are new to the world of evolutionary health and well being, or already a Primal Paleo Veteran, a Primal Retreat (http://www.primalfitness.co.uk/retreats/) is a great way to both further develop your knowledge and love of Primal Fitness and Paleo Nutrition, whilst simultaneously putting it to the test in a truly wild environment, making new friends with a shared passion in the process!

The retreat lasts for 7 full days (8 nights), with 2 daily sessions of activity, and 3 daily meals of home cooked, largely homegrown, organic, whole food.

Each day you will start with a brief session of mindfulness practice, followed by a delicious healthy breakfast, after which we begin with a Primal Skill Session within the grounds of the retreat.

Different each day, the focus will be on improving your performance, efficiency and safety, by developing your technique and body awareness in all aspects of natural movement, from running and jumping, to climbing and balancing, to lifting and carrying.

After more delicious home cooked and homegrown food, and a bit of R&R time to escape the heat of the midday sun, the afternoon will see you off into the mountains, exploring the spectacular trails, climbing and abseiling the rugged rock faces, and foraging and collecting firewood in the woods and valleys – Each day you will discover another area of natural beauty, whilst taking on a new physical adventure, which will test the various skills you have learned in the morning sessions.

After a fun, but challenging day, we return back to the retreat centre, for another nourishing, home cooked, whole food meal, eaten together in the dining room, while watching the sun go down over the sea from our mountainside viewpoint.

Hidden Paradise

Being in nature has untold benefits, but so can some modern creature comforts. We like to think we’ve found the perfect balance for our Primal Retreats (http://www.primalfitness.co.uk/retreats/)…

Hidden Paradise is a 100% sustainable retreat centre, deriving all of its energy from solar power and wood burners.

Choose between single occupancy or shared rooms (max 2 people), in small lodgings with shared bathrooms and hot showers (or if you want to keep it a little more Primal, nip outside and use one of the composting toilets which help put nutrients back into the farmland).

Another ancient “skill” the importance of which is also largely often overlooked in our modern, non-stop world, is that of relaxation.

Not so in Hidden Paradise!

During your R&R time, you can chill out on the terrace topping up those vitamin D levels before heading back to the UK, take a dip in the swimming pool, or unwind and relax those aching muscles in the sauna before bed.

Reaching the Peak…

On the penultimate day of the retreat, we’ll take you really wild, by going out on an all day excursion to ascend Mulhacen, a 3482 m peak – the highest in Western Europe outside of the Alps.

Not only is this a great challenge, with spectacular views, but also a fantastic way for you to get to know your Primal Comrades, and also discuss and question everything we’ve covered throughout the week, and any other area or topic in the world of Primal and Paleo Health and Wellbeing.

Take it Home

There are many “fitness retreats” out there, where the aim is to push people to their physical limits, while on starvation rations, in order to quickly lose a few kilos.

This is not what a Primal Retreat (http://www.primalfitness.co.uk/retreats/) is about.

On a Primal Retreat (http://www.primalfitness.co.uk/retreats/), the aim is to have fun, learn new skills, face new challenges and make new friends.

You’ll be more active than usual, and eating great natural healthy food all week, with no distractions, so some fat loss is possible, but this is not the primary aim.

We’ll give you the movement skills, and culinary knowledge, to be able to keep up a sustained Primal Lifestyle, even when you return to your usual urban environment, along with, we hope, the drive to keep going out into the wild to explore when the time and opportunities present themselves in your hectic modern schedule!

To find out more about our Primal Retreat (http://www.primalfitness.co.uk/retreats/), what they entail, and how to book, please take a look at our website www.primalfitness.co.uk/retreats

We also have a special Early Bird Booking Offer – if you reserve your place before the end of July, you’ll receive 25% off the normal price.

We hope we’ve rekindled your desire to get out and explore our beautiful region, goodbye for now, or should I say Hasta la Vista!
